Colts HC Jeff Saturday Clock Management Errors In Loss To Steeler

Jeff Saturday's time management skills are obviously not up to the mark.

With only three timeouts left, the Colts were trailing 24-17 in the fourth quarter Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers, when they got the ball back with 3:52 remaining on their own 7-yard line.

They drove to the Steelers' 37 yard line and faced 4th-and-3 with two minutes still on the clock.

Indianapolis converted, but the issue was that Saturday allowed 30 seconds to pass by before he called a timeout.

His explanation for the delay was that he "thought we had plenty of time" and that "we had plenty of timeouts".

The Colts, now 4-7-1, needed to win this game to remain in contention for the playoffs.

While they had a chance to tie the game on fourth down, Ryan's pass fell incomplete.

This clock management issue and the resulting criticism could be used to justify the doubts some had when Saturday was appointed as the interim head coach after Frank Reich was fired.

It is clear that the finer details, especially in endgame scenarios, are of utmost importance in the NFL.
